Most are limited edition prints, for a reason. If you walked up to any tattoo artist and told them you just got a tattoo they spent days designing specifically for a client of theirs, copied exactly, you would make a lot of people very angry. If they are incapable of producing their own version of a piece of art, they shouldn’t be tattooing. Go to any tattoo studio, convention, or speak to any tattoo artist (you are now, I’ve been tattooing 12 years), tattoo artists that are willing to copy/replicate another’s design exactly, very quickly lose all respect with their peers, lose jobs or their seat in a studio or just stop getting hired. The products are irrelevant and a different conversation (and never ok). I am a tattoo artist, that takes on freelance work and fine art commissions if I have time and want to. I just can’t believe other artists think it’s fine. And I know people do this, and nothing can be done about it. And of course, I would never ever try to make a profit off anything I “make” (low-qualify printer-paper posters) using others’ (fan)art.
And yes, I will make sure to get permission, and buy from them when I move out and can self-sustain. However, the general consensus seems to be that it’s mostly ok as long as I get permission from the artists (and to try buy from them if possible). I absolutely would never sell it or spread it around, but would it be okay for personal use?Įdit: thank you for all your replies! for quick info I’m a high school student with zero personal income (so unfortunately although I want to support as many artists as I can, I currently don’t have the financial freedom to buy all the art I want). Hey, I just had a quick question about whether or not it’s okay to use other people’s art for personal purposes like wall decoration (posters for my room), or like printer-paper stickers and t-shirts (using printer).
